Choosing the Distilled Fish Oil over Pure Fish Oil

Some people know a lot about fish oils, but not so many probably know about the fact that there are two types of fish oils: the distilled fish oil and the pure, unprocessed fish oil. You’re probably surprised, but the fact is most fish oil sold in the market today do not go through a purification process thus actually rendering them more dangerous to consume because fishes of today have high toxicity. Distilled fish oil, however, does not have that kind of danger to the consumer.

The Processes of Purifying Fish Oil

Fish oil is purified through two ways, and these are the following:

  • Winterization

As its name suggests, the unadulterated fish oil is subjected to low temperatures. In other words, to freeze them. It is a fact that fats form up and become solid when frozen so the company is able to remove them leaving only the pure fish oil minus the fat particles.

  • Molecular Distillation

This particular process uses high-speed rotation in order to separate the oil from the other chemicals in its composition. They bind together and result to one mass. However, spinning in high speed causes a state of suspension where molecules are separated according to weight, and so the toxins are removed from the pure oil.

This way, you can see that the fish oil is truly pure when the processes are done. That is why distilled fish oil or pharmaceutical grade fish oil is better than those that have not gone through the procedures. You can avoid a lot of problems like toxicity and the harmful effects that come along with it. The problem is, toxicity accumulates over time and would not be detected before reaching a critical stage.

Everyone who takes fish oil only have health in their concerns, which is not a bad idea. However, they also need to educate themselves about the products they are taking. Distilled fish oil is much safer and more effective for one’s health despite the hefty price tag that is attached to them. It would be a safe and worth investment.
