"It's amazing, I'll be 76 this November and I feel like I am 28 years old! In Washington state, people know me as "Seattle" Stu. I play 4 sports every week, like clockwork, which include Basketball, Hockey, Baseball and Tennis. I've been doing this for the last 20 years, and the local newspapers have called me a "man for all seasons"! For me staying healthy is critical, because playing sports is a way of life for me. I also have the distinction of winning more basketball games in this league than any other player, winning 8 Championships in my 12 years playing. I play baseball quite a bit too, in a "38 and over" league, and my batting average is close to 400. I enjoy playing, but keeping up with the youngsters, and teaching them a thing or two, is often the best part!"

"Eight years ago when I was 49, my husband told me I was "too old" to snowboard. Taking up the challenge, the following winter I began learning how to ride. By the time I was 53, I was a fairly decent rider and, one evening in February, 2003, in the middle of apres' ski, my husband (they never learn) bet me $100 that I couldn't get down the NASTAR course in 45 seconds. The game was on. 

My first ever attempt at the NASTAR course on a snowboard ( I had barely ever done it on skiis), was a 'blistering' 64 seconds - I knew I was in trouble. By the end of that ski season at Windham Mountain, my time was 46 seconds. Fortunately, I had been invited to the NASTAR Finals in Park City. An final opportunity to break 45 seconds in the 2003 season. The game continued.

My Husband, son (14), son's friend (14) and I traveled out to Park City. (Lovely mountain and town.) I practiced for a day (beat both kids down every trail.) On race day, first run, 46 seconds. Note - A snowboarder in NASTAR is the exception as you know. A 53 year old female snowboarder is a side show. Word spread among the 50 to 55 competitors about my bet with my husband.

Back to the story. My second run was almost a disaster - I fell across the finish line. When I got up the little crowd assembled at the base was cheering - chanting really - "pay her the money" - and pointing to the time clock. There it was -- 44.9 seconds. Well Jim paid me the money - the $100 bill is framed along with my bib.

"I play on a senior (50 and over) USTA tennis team from Clearwater, Florida. Here is a picture of us winning the Sectional Championships in May at Daytona Beach, FL (pictured from left to right Boderek, Poffenburger, Esterbrook, Bianco, captain Foster, Serrabella, Buell, Duncan, myself and Frost).
